Kids say the darndest things

The kids are always saying funny things and I really should be recording them. I thought I'd type up a few of the ones they've been saying lately...

I'm changing Megan's diaper and Jaron comes crawling over to play with Meg who is laying on the ground...
Mommy - "You sure love your sister don't you Jaron?"
Dallin - "Yeah, and he likes to poop too!"

Megan came and woke us up one morning...
Megan - "Good morning guys."
Daddy - "Hi Meg."
Mommy - "Does your tummy feel better?"
Megan - "Uh... sure. Get up Dad! Get up and make break'est."
Daddy - "I'll be there in a minute. Go downstairs."
Megan - "No Dad, get up!"
Mommy - "Are you hungry?"
Megan - "Yeah, I hung'y"
Daddy - "Ok Meg, go eat that bread from last night."
Megan - (long pause) "YOU eat it!"

Cousin Grant had been here for a visit from Montana and as Dallin was getting into the car after church he asked...
"Dad, when can we go to Hannah Montana to see where Grant lives?"

Megan - "Guess what?"
Mommy - "What?"
Megan - "Woody broke his arm."
Then she is off playing again.

Megan has been watching the movie 101 Dalmations a lot lately and playing with a stuffed Pongo that we have. The other day, she told Daddy...
"Jesus wants me to go to his house to watch Pongo and the 'almations movie."

Big update from the doctor for Drostan!

We went for his check up this morning. It has now been 5.5 weeks since the accident and we were planning on a little check up and him telling us he will see us in 2-3 weeks and talk about maybe putting some pressure on it. We walk in with all 4 kids (finding a sitter at 8:30 in the morning during spring break is just not happening) and if we didn't already feel like a freak show, we're asked once again if they are all ours. Yup. :-) They take off the bandages and look at the incision and the doc moves the ankle around a bit to see how stable it is. Then he says, "ok, it's time to get rid of the boot and start walking on it!" All of a sudden, Drostan gets a deer in the headlight look....

He said it won't happen overnight but he can now wear shoes and is supposed to start putting a little pressure on it as he's walking with the crutches and soon he'll notice that he's not really using the crutches very much. The new brace will prevent it from going side to side while still helping him be able to stretch it up and down and start getting some more strength in it. He's pretty freaked out with the thought right now. It still seems so unstable to him. He doesn't have to wear anything on it at night and that scares him too. I guess we'll see how this goes! Wish him luck!!!

Oh, and as we were leaving, the doc shook our hands and said, "you are still the freak show of the year!" Glad to know he still retains his title. :-)

Ok, now I'm a bit scared

So I've talked about training for the Wasatch Back race in June on a few of my entries here. There are 12 of us running the relay. Some of us are novice runners (ME!), some are more intermediate, and some are very hard core awesome! Well, one of the girls has been having a LOT of problems with her hips and back since she had her 6th baby and now she will no longer be able to run with us. :-( We had to switch some things up because the runner we got to take her place is more of a beginning runner and now I've been moved to a more intermediate position! I'll be running the same overall distance of 13 combined miles over my 3 legs of the race but my last leg looks like this...

That's a 1463 foot elevation climb in just 3.6 miles! Anyone have any advice on how I should train other than just running as many hills as I can find?

Megan has been tagged

It's been a couple of weeks ago but Megan has been tagged by Carter H.! Now I have to tell you 8 things about her and she will tag another kid at the end...



1. Megan was born in Ohio on April 5, 2005. Daddy was in his 3rd year of dental school and Megan joined the family with 2 older brothers who just adored her!



2. Megan is known around here for having quite the mood swings! One minute she can be sweet as sugar...



... and the next, you wonder what has her possessed?



I was at a girl's night out the other night and it was seriously a topic of conversation how quickly she can go from sweetheart to little drama queen! She always keeps us guessing!



3. Megan has been our most mischievous child yet! I don't think she means to be bad though, I think she's just very creative! I once found her stripped down to her diaper and smeared all over her body was almost an entire jar of Mentholadum. She has been our first to color on the hard wood and the walls with crayons. She takes the Desatin under the piano and smears it all over the back of the couch and the underside of the piano. She emptied almost a whole bottle of hand sanitizer on my bedside table, including on some pictures that were on there and the telephone.... I could go on, but I think you get the picture!



4. Megan loves to sing and remembers the words to songs so quickly! We've been working on learning the hymns in our family and each night we try to sing 3 of them. Mommy gets to practice the piano and the kids get to learn the words. She can sing the first verse to so many of them now, including, "I am a child of God", "Praise to the man", "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam" and a few more.





5. Meggy (as we like to call her... that, or Meg) loves to rough house with her brothers. When they start wrestling, she gets right in there with them and can really hold her own usually.



6. Meg is so good at letting me play with her hair and do different hairstyles. It's been so fun having a girl so I can play and try different things. She is so patient and just sits on the counter, watching in the mirror until I'm done when she proceeds to say, "Pretty girl!"







It looks like I need to get some more recent photos of what we've been doing with it now that it is longer.



7. Potty training with Megan has been quite the undertaking. Everyone told me that it was so much easier with girls. My boys were trained at 3 years old and at 2.5. Both only took about a day and a half and they were TOTALLY done, including nights. Well, I started with Megan just after she turned 2 and it has been a battle ever since! She'll be 3 next week! She just won't DO anything in the potty so it's hard to throw a party for her and show her what a great job she is doing. She'll sit and sit and sit for EVER and NOTHING! She seriously has a bladder of steel! We've tried rewards, we've tried the feel and learn pull ups, we've tried having her drink a TON, we've tried just about everything and she just won't do it. There is that strong will of her's coming out again. I wonder where she gets that from? hehehe



8. Megan already has her share of boyfriends. :-) She is seriously in love with guys... not boys her age but the husbands of all of our friends! :-) Jared is one of her favorites! Every time he is around, she has to be sitting on his lap or by him. This is them in October...

Race Report ~ St. Patrick's Day 5K

Since I've been training for the Wasatch Back in June, I've planned a couple of smaller races along the way to get me ready. Today was the YMCA St. Patrick's Day 5K. I was able to run it with my long time friend Jocelyn and 2 of the girls who will be running the relay with me in June. We were hoping for a bit better weather but all in all, it was fun. Thank goodness the rain decided to stay away! I dropped Drostan and the kids off at Jocelyn's house so her husband could watch them all (poor Trevor had a 1 legged man and 7 kids all morning... Thank You!!!) and we headed down town. We got Jocelyn registered and got our timing chips. This is not the greatest picture of me, but Joce is a hotty!

Then we found Julie and Emily!

We started off at the back of the pack because I have started too close to the front in my other 2 races I've done and I hate being passed the whole time! lol I told Jocelyn that she did not have to stay with me because I know she's a much faster runner than me but she said she just wanted to run for fun and the sweetheart stayed with me encouraging me almost the whole time! I wasn't feeling very well this morning so I hadn't eaten hardly anything and I felt like I was dragging a 50 lb weight the whole time! She was so good to keep me going and talking to me and telling me stories while I puffed along. I really just wanted to beat my last time from my New Year's race which was 31:52. As we're about 1/3 of the way into the 3rd mile, I told her to go ahead and run as fast as she wanted so she went ahead of me and I chugged on to the end. As I was coming down the final stretch, I saw the huge time clock they had at the finish and it said 34:something. I was crushed! I didn't think I had done that badly. So as soon as I cross the finish, they make an announcement saying that the time clock was for the 5 MILE run that started about 5 minutes before us so my time was actually 29:56! I was thrilled!!! It was a lot of fun! Emily came in right behind me. In our age group, Jocelyn came in 8th, I came in 10th and Emily 11th! Emily and I ran back a ways to run with Julie to the finish. She had felt like she was going to be sick and had to walk a bit but we all made it. It really was a lot of fun.

I wish I had some pictures of us running but maybe next time. My next race I have scheduled is the Famous Potato 10K on May 17th!

Drostan's Birthday!

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions. Drostan's birthday on Thursday the 13th was a lot of fun! I decided to give him 30 presents, 1 every 30 minutes of the day to celebrate him turning 30! I started at 7am and it went until 9:30pm! He was so surprised and really had fun with it. I sent a bag of presents and letters to work with him for the assistants to give to him. Each had a number and a time on them. They were so great and would go into his office and say, "You're late! You need to open this one!" I picked him up at 1 and he came home and rested for the afternoon. That evening, I surprised him by having some close friends come over for his 7:00 gift and we had a little surprise party with his favorite, ice cream cake! He had told me he was thinking this would be a pretty sorry birthday since we couldn't go out and celebrate but he said it ended up being the best he'd ever had. I had so much fun doing it!!! So here is the list of what I did:

I need your help!

Ok all you creative people out there. I need some help. Drostan turns 30 in 2 days and I just don't know what to do for him. I was planning on doing a fun surprise party or something but then he hurt his leg and is just so tired and in pain all the time, it just won't work. He's just not up to something like that. I really want to make this a special birthday for him! Any ideas!?!?!?

I've posted so much about Drostan lately that I thought I owed it to the kids to do a post just for them!



KYLE

He turned 7 last month and is loving 1st grade. He is one of the tallest in the class. Every day I look at him and can't believe how big he seems to me! One of our dear friends teaches piano and he has started taking lessons. He's been begging for lessons ever since we got our beautiful piano. My parents moved a little over a year ago and could not fit it in their house anymore so I got a phone call one day that said the piano movers would be here the next day! YEAH!!! Daddy has to keep prompting him that although it seems hard right now, it is worth all of the effort. A couple of the missionaries stopped by the other day and one asked to play the piano for a bit. I think it helped Kyle to see that if he keeps practicing, that could be him some day, on his mission somewhere, playing the piano for a family.



DALLIN

He turned 5 on New Year's Eve and is all boy! He loves to get dirty and run around and wrestle with everyone and build forts. Right now, he thinks his older brother walks on the moon and wants to be with him ALL the time. Sitting in church, it isn't enough to be sitting next to him. There can't be ANY space between them and it's driving big brother crazy!!! I'm trying to get him to do things on his own or with Megan or with friends but there is no substitute for Kyle right now.



MEGAN

She will be 3 in April. I was so excited when we found out Megan was a girl and now... I'm thrilled we only have one! :-) I love her dearly but she has been more of a challenge than all 3 boys combined! She is just such a mischief maker. She took a crayon to about half of the walls on our main floor and the wall going up the stairs. She will find some Desatin and hide under the piano "painting". She dumped a bottle of hand sanitizer out on my bed side table all over everything on it including some pictures and the phone. She found some paints in my craft closet (that normally is closed and she can't go in) and painted on herself, a chair, and the carpet. She stripped down to her diaper and smeared almost a whole bottle of Mentholadum all over her.... I could go on! When it's quite, I get nervous and now I'll call out, "Megan, what are you doing?" and her response now is, "I'm not doin' nothin' Mom." That's when I know to find her and see what I get to clean up now! This video is back from December but I just love it!





JARON

He is now 10 months old and really our sweetest baby yet. I think all of our babies keep getting easier (until they turn 2) :-) He's working on a couple more teeth so that makes him a bit more clingy but for the past 2 nights, he's slept from about 9pm until about 7am!!!! If I wasn't getting up with Drostan, I'd feel like a new woman with all that sleep. :-) He's crawling all over the place now and just loves to be with his siblings. Even though Megan tends to clobber him, he just adores her and grins from ear to ear when she's around. He's a smarty pants too. Here he is a couple of months ago.

ANOTHER UPDATE ON DROSTAN.

Today it has been 1 week and 5 days since the accident and it was time to take the stitches out. I was able to drop the kids off at a friend's house and as we drove to the orthopedic doc's office, I asked Drostan if he was nervous about getting the stitches out. He said no...but that was until he met the Medical Assistant! :-) He had a bit of an accent and we asked him where he was from. "I'm French" is what he said and we asked, "from France or Canada?" He laughed and said, "no, I'm a real Frenchman, not from Canada."


Drostan asked what brought him to the States, he said, "my X-wife." We all laughed and bit and then he asked him what has kept him here. His reply was, "my new girlfriend." :-D So all this time he is taking Drostan's foot out of the boot and unwrapping the bandages. He gets them all off and looks at the wound and says, "Wow, how the he** did you do that?!" Then he looks closer at the stitches he is about to remove and says, "Oh my gosh, you are going to scream." Drostan and I just started laughing. He said they were nice looking stitches but very tight and big! So he goes out of the room to get some stuff and we are just busting up at this guy. I asked D if he was nervous now and he said yes!

So the guy comes back in and is getting ready so I go over to hold Drostan's hand and watch and the MA turns to him and asks, "Have you ever had stitches out before?" He says he has and the guy said, "Bad ones?" lol This guy is just hilarious. What a way to put your patient at ease! So he starts snipping and my brave man doesn't even flinch through all 13 stitches. He said he felt a little poking but it really wasn't that bad.

So after another x-ray that looked great and showing half of the office this blog with the original injury picture, they gave Drostan the go ahead to go back to work if he is feeling up to it and told him to continue to rest/ice/ibuprofen the ankle and we go back in 3 weeks.

Since we were already out, Drostan decided he needed to really make it worth all of the effort so we headed over to Cabelas for some stretchy socks he could wear under the boot (because any other brand just wouldn't do). It was nice for him to get out a bit but it sure tired him out and now he is resting comfortably and playing the Wii our friends lent to us. :-)

Is teething always this hard?

You'd think being the wife of a dentist I would know the answer to this. :-) It seems like Jaron is having a tougher time than the other kids did. He is 10 months old today and trying to break his laterals through so badly. It's so hard when all I can do is give him Tylenol and some lovin'.

I know I've created a bad habit of nursing him at night when he wakes up. For a while I did it to get the extra calories in him when he wasn't growing but now that he is doing great in that area, I really need to get him to sleep through the night. Any bright ideas? I always lie him down when he's awake and he just rolls over and goes to sleep. The problem is if he wakes up in the middle of the night, he won't be soothed by anything other than nursing. He shares a room with Dallin and luckily, he's a pretty sound sleeper but Jaron sure can scream!

I know, I know... this too shall pass. It always seems that whatever stage I'm struggling with, figures itself out soon after I can't seem to handle it anymore but hindsight is always 20/20. You'd think I was a pro at all of this after 4 kids but I don't think that ever really happens. Uh oh... there he goes again... wish me luck...

Husbands name? Drostan

How long have you been together? We just celebrated our 8 year anniversary in January

How long did you date? We dated for 5 months; 3 of those months included our engagement.

Who eats more? Well, since I'm trying to lose weight and he's trying to gain muscle, him.

Who said I Love you first? I think he did but it could have been me. Is it bad that I don't remember?

Who is taller? Drostan is 6'2" and I'm 5'5". I love it!

Who has more speeding tickets? We may be pretty equal on this one. Neither of us have had one since we've been together though.

Who is smarter? I'd have to say Drostan. He has quite the "red" personality and really does know a lot about a lot of things.

Who is more sensitive? Yeah, that would be me. I can cry at the drop of a hat! I think I'm a little more sensitive toward the kids too but he can really be sensitive when he needs to be.

When there is a fight who usually wins? Me. :-) We've actually gotten a lot better and when we have "disagreements", we can usually talk them out until we come to some common ground.

Who does the laundry? Definitely me. He will help fold and put away sometimes when they are piled on the bed and he wants to go to sleep. :-)

Who does the dishes? I'd say more often me but he does them quite a bit. He's always great to try to help out at the end of the day.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Me. That usually changes depending on where the bed is in our room and how easy it is to get out and take care of the kids.

Who pays the bills? Me.

Who mows the lawn? Drostan

Who cooks dinner? 9 times out of 10 it's me but if I'm really at a loss, Drostan can come up with some amazing concoctions out of what I thought was nothing in the fridge. It really is a talent!

Who drives when we are together? Whoever grabbed the keys. Maybe him a bit more often.

Who is more stubborn? We're both pretty stubborn.

Who kissed who first? Drostan kissed me first. FINALLY! :-) I thought he was taking forever but looking back, it was only about 2 weeks into dating.

Who asked who out first? This one is kind of funny. He asked me out but I didn't realize it was a date. I tried so hard to get my roommates to come with me but they were all busy. When I got there and there was 1 other couple and us, I was glad they didn't come.

Who purposed? Drostan, on the floor in my room, over BBQ chicken pizza.

Who has more siblings? I do. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers and Drostan is an only child.
